The Memphis Grizzlies completed a trade just minutes before the NBA’s 2 p.m. trade deadline on Thursday, Feb. 6.
The franchise is sending out Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia and a 2025 first-round pick as part of a three-team deal with the Washington Wizards and Sacramento Kings, according to multiple reports.
The Grizzlies will receive multiple second-round selections, as well as Washington Wizards players Marvin Bagley III and Johnny Davis.
Smart, a 30-year-old guard/forward, appeared in just 39 games for Memphis over one-and-a-half seasons. The former Defensive Player of the Year had one more season (2025-26) remaining on his contract for $21.6 million.
By bringing in Bagley and Davis, two players with expiring contracts, the Grizzlies clear future money ahead of a summer when Santi Aldama will become a restricted free agent and Jaren Jackson Jr. will be eligible for an extension.
The plans for Davis and Bagley the rest of the season are unclear. Memphis could potentially waive one or both to make space for a roster spot, then navigate the buyout market.
LaRavia, who was selected No. 19 overall by Memphis in the 2022 draft, was also set to be a free agent at the end of the season.
As part of the trade, the Kings will send Alex Len and Colby Jones to the Wizards.
