Sanford: A Delta newspaper and an assault on freedom of the press

Few people would dispute that Curtis Wilkie is at or near the top of the list of most accomplished journalists Mississippi has ever produced.
A 1963 journalism graduate of the University of Mississippi, Wilkie, now 84 years old and retired, had a stellar career as a newspaper reporter, author, historian and journalism educator.
Along the way, he also got appointed to a congressional fellowship in Washington. And he has been a role model for countless other journalists, me included.
