Made in Memphis Entertainment, which houses 4U Recording and Heavy Hitters Music Group, put its 16,500-square-foot office and recording studio on the market.

Kelly Truitt and Adam Stovall of CBRE, a commercial real estate company, listed the building for sale at $5.3 million.

The building is located at 400 Union Ave.

‘Memphis is the center point of the world’ when it comes to music

In a statement, MIME said it plans to sell the renovated building “to concentrate its focus on its publishing and artist empowerment business operations.”

Tony Alexander, president and managing director of MIME, said the entertainment group does not plan on leaving the Memphis area, but is “testing the market.”

“We’ve seen some properties adjacent to us selling for a pretty significant amount,” Alexander said. “It’s not an urgency to do anything, but we wanted to see what the market might bear.”

Alexander said the group is interested in seeing if a new owner will “take the mantle as it relates to recorded music and in-studio services.”

The Memphis property was built in 1951 and renovated in 2017. The three-story building includes a basement level, a recording and production studio on the first floor and executive and administrative offices on the second floor.

Alexander also said if the building is sold, MIME and its affiliates would like to work out an arrangement with the new owners about using the building, but the deal “is negotiable.”

“There are other studios that we could partner with to continue to provide certain things, but we’d be able to stay in Memphis,” Alexander said. “Core operations for our business are here in Memphis.”

Alexander said MIME is prepared to continue its operations at the building if no buyer shows.

MIME also has a 4U Recording studio in Atlanta.

Breaking down Memphis’ music scene

Alexander and legendary Stax Records producer and songwriter David Porter launched MIME in Memphis in 2015.

The company runs 4U Recording, Heavy Hitters Music Group, Beetroot Music, MIME Publishing and MIME Records.
