U.S. District Judge Mark Norris removed himself from the pending civil rights lawsuit about Tyré Nichols death.

U.S. District Judge Sheryl Lipman has been assigned to the yearslong case. Norris’ removal of himself follows his recusal in the federal criminal case of the five former Memphis Police Department officers who were charged in relation to Nichols’ 2023 death.

It remains unclear why Norris recused himself. His order of removal Thursday, June 26, did not give a reason why.
