The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation announced Monday that Memphis Grizzlies player Santi Aldama has been named to its board of directors.
It’s been a big week for Aldama, 24, who also got married in Spain over the weekend with several former teammates present.
The NBPA’s announcement means Aldama will join a team that provides strategic oversight on the work of the NBPA Foundation to deliver philanthropic resources for current and former NBA players.
In his role, Aldama will serve as an advisor to the NBPA Foundation’s global programs, approve grant funding, and identify new opportunities for the Foundation to support players' social impact work around the world.
In addition to Aldama, Golden State Warriors wing Moses Moody will also join the board.
“We’re excited to welcome Moses and Santi to the NBPA Foundation’s board,” said Erika Swilley, executive director of the NBPA Foundation. “Both bring a strong sense of purpose and a deep commitment to giving back to the communities that shaped them. We know their leadership and passion for social impact will strengthen our ability to support our players and drive meaningful change.”
Aldama, who is Spanish, has been in the league for the past four years and joins the board with valuable social impact experience internationally.
He spent time earlier this month leading youth development initiatives in his hometown of Gran Canaria, Spain. His annual basketball camp offers young athletes ages 6 through 17 the opportunity to develop basketball skills and learn the fundamentals of teamwork.
Aldama agreed to a three-year, $52.5 million contract to remain with the Grizzlies this offseason.
“We are honored to join the NBPA Foundation’s Board of Directors and play an integral role in supporting players and uplifting communities,” Moody and Aldama said in a joint news release. “Philanthropy and social responsibility are engrained in the DNA of our players, and this opportunity enables us to elevate our involvement and take a more active role in the Foundation’s impactful work.”
