Just after 8 a.m. Monday, July 14, the first of many young Memphians teed off between a set of golden squirrels at Overton Park 9.

The Overton Park Junior Open opened with the entire field of more than 150 kids ages 16 and under playing in Monday’s qualifying round.

The Junior Open has been a Memphis golf fixture for decades dating back to 1947, making it one of the country’s oldest youth golf tournaments according to its website.
