Ask the Memphian: Did Union Avenue really change lane directions twice a day?
It was 1975, and Jack Sammons was cruising down Union Avenue in a white Monte Carlo he’d just bought for $5,500.
It was the first car he’d purchased with his own money, earned by schlepping lobsters and other seafood at his uncle’s restaurant. Like any young man in such a situation, he loved that hunk of metal more than anything.
