An 18-year-old Ole Miss football player was shot and killed in Cordova late Saturday night, July 19, in a shooting that also left four other people wounded, officials confirmed Sunday.

Corey Adams, a New Orleans native, was found just before 10:15 p.m. in a car at the intersection of Forest Hill-Irene and Walnut Grove roads, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found Adams in the car suffering from gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were attempted, the SCSO said, including by paramedics, but Adams was pronounced dead on the scene.

Deputies determined that the shooting happened outside a home on Fern Glade Cove, not far from where Adams was found. Multiple shell casings were found, and deputies learned that four other men with gunshot wounds had been taken by private vehicles to area hospitals. All four are in noncritical condition Sunday.

Deputies had made no arrests Sunday.

Adams was a freshman defensive end who signed with Ole Miss after helping lead the Edna Karr High football team from New Orleans to a Louisiana state championship last season.
