“Without hats, there is no civilization,” wrote Christian Dior.
Of course, he wrote that in 1954.
That was 71 years ago. The scene at Mister Hats this week offered further evidence — as if we needed any more — that civilization may be teetering.
Giant banners proclaimed a liquidation sale. A consultant who specializes in closing stores set up shop just inside the door, welcoming customers and inviting them to sign up for an everything-must-go raffle.
“Mister Hats is hanging up its hat for good,” said the official announcement on the website, so if the hat puns get out of hand later in this piece, just remember who started it.
