Ozzy Osbourne dies at 76, but his wild Memphis night will live on forever

As news spread Tuesday about the death of Ozzy Osbourne, famed metal vocalist and founding member of Black Sabbath, many in Memphis likely thought back to his brush with infamy in the Bluff City more than 40 years ago.

Osbourne died Tuesday, July 22, at age 76, more than five years after announcing that he had Parkinson’s disease. But it was on May 15, 1984, in Memphis that an incident happened that made Ozzy famous for something other than his music.
