Daily Jigsaw: Liza’s Library
A hardwood trunk climbs the back wall, its branches reaching toward vibrant light and dark green, circular leaves that grow sideways and hang across the ceiling.
The focal point of the newly renovated children’s library at St. Mary’s Episcopal School is The Reading Tree. It’s the legacy of the school’s former student and teacher Liza Wellford Fletcher who fashioned the same tree of craft paper in her classroom each year. Adorned with seasonal fall foliage, snowflakes and flower blossoms, Fletcher’s craft paper tree became the cozy place where students’ reading roots would begin to take hold, and like her, they’d grow to love books.
