What’s next in the Republican race for Shelby County mayor?

Germantown Mayor Mike Palazzolo won’t be running for Shelby County mayor next year, although he did take a long look at the 2026 Republican primary, which, for now, has no announced candidates.

Throughout several months, he took into consideration citizens urging him to make the race that already has five announced contenders for the Democratic nomination. Beyond that, he met with long-time advisors and donors in assessing his ability to fundraise for what would be a “daunting” countywide race, by his own description.
