Cliff Johnson launches congressional bid in Mississippi’s 1st district

Civil rights attorney Cliff Johnson announced Thursday, Oct. 2, that he will seek the Democratic nomination in Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District, a Republican-leaning seat held by Rep. Trent Kelly.
Kelly has not announced his campaign for reelection for the 2026 election cycle, but according to the Federal Election Commission, the incumbent has raised over $200,000 for the potential reelection.
