Sultana Museum in Marion starts to gain steam
The Sultana Disaster Museum on Military Road in Marion, Ark. is dedicated to the sinking of the Sultana, the nation’s worst maritime disaster. (Brad Vest/Special to The Daily Memphian)
By the loss of life, the sinking of the Sultana is considered the worst maritime disaster in U.S. history. More people died on the Sultana than were lost in the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.
The people behind the Sultana Disaster Museum in Marion, Arkansas, hope to keep the stories of the 1,800 people who died in the steamboat explosion alive.
