Jackson Hines’ team was in last place.

The Bartlett summer league track team was competing in the 800-meter relay, and they were well behind the other groups. Hines’ parents Curtis and Lashanda weren’t sure the squad could make a comeback. But then the 8-year-old Hines took the baton and charged down the track, overtaking his competitors and winning the race for his relay team.

His parents were impressed — and not just by his athleticism, but by his resilient spirit and his passion.
