The Memphis women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night in Fort Worth, Texas. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it came in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as TCU eliminated Memphis 4-0.

“Credit to TCU; the atmosphere was fantastic, and they came out with more intensity. Conceding early was obviously a gut punch and it felt like we never really found our rhythm,” said Brooks Monaghan. “I’m proud of the girls and what we were able to achieve this season. When you reflect on the year, you can’t just reflect on the final result and we had a great year.”

Memphis (17-1-3) had only allowed four goals all season during the first half of its previous 20 matches, but found itself trailing 4-0 after 45 minutes on Friday at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.

The Horned Frogs scored in the third, 10th and 12th minutes to jump out to a 3-0 advantage.

TCU senior forward Seven Castain scored two of the Horned Frogs' four goals.

TCU (17-2-2) will play North Carolina on Monday in the Sweet 16.

The Tigers' 17 wins are tied for the second most in program history (22 in 2011). Memphis also won its 16th conference championship by winning the American Conference regular-season title.
