Daily Jigsaw: Poppin’ up kid films
Joey Reyes loves avocado toast, so when it was time for the 8-year-old to make a short film, she didn’t have to look too far for inspiration.
The result? A 55-second morality play disguised as a short film that shows Joey digging into her beloved toast as her stuffed avocado toy stares at her from a nearby window, as if in condemnation. Joey eats, and the toy stares, judging her. The camera zooms in on Joey, then the stuffed avocado, getting closer each time.
And then Joey shrugs her shoulders, smiles and finishes her toast.
“It’s about avocado toast, I guess,” Joey said at the inaugural Like You Children’s Film Festival, being held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22-23, at the Pink Palace Museum. “I just liked the idea of making a short film.”
