When her daughter was just five months old, Raakhee Mirchandani knew something was wrong.

Call it mother’s intuition or just her subconscious picking up on nearly invisible cues, but Mirchandani just knew Satya wasn’t well. After multiple visits to a pediatrician, her fears were borne out: Satya had neuroblastoma, a cancer that manifested as a tumor in her abdomen.

Using a treatment pioneered at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, doctors in New Jersey cured young Satya so fast that, at 12 years old and in middle school now, she has no memory of ever being sick.
