As a winter storm approaches, municipalities across DeSoto County are racing against the clock to prepare roads, utilities and emergency shelters.
With the storm expected to arrive Friday evening, local officials from Hernando, Horn Lake, Olive Branch and Southaven are launching coordinated efforts to mitigate the impact of what is predicted to be snow and ice.
Meteorologists are characterizing the approaching system from significant to catastrophic. There is uncertainty in exactly what type of frozen precipitation will fall in North Mississippi, leaving governments and utility crews to prepare for the worst.
