Martin: What Memphis hoops is trying to do may be impossible

John Martin is a contributing college sports columnist for The Daily Memphian. Martin is a lifelong Memphian who’s covered the Memphis Tigers’ basketball program for more than a decade. Before joining The Daily Memphian team, he was the Memphis beat writer for The Athletic. As Memphis prepares for its rematch against Florida Atlantic (7 p.m., ESPN2) later Thursday inside FedExForum, it occurred to me to ask:
What should Memphis basketball fans want the program to accomplish?
I don’t mean in 2025-26. What the Tigers are doing this season is undeniably disappointing, and there’s basically nothing they can realistically do to redeem themselves at this point.
