Edward Dean Brown was recently experiencing problems with a defibrillator implant he had installed in his chest to help with heart issues.

Brown, 55, a former construction worker from Southaven, had entered the hospital because his implant kept shocking, more than usual.

The surgery occurred in the early hours of Feb. 2 — marking the 500th transplant that the Baptist Heart Institute has completed.
