Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson has instructed staff to begin preparing the state’s election management system for a return to the 2022 legislative maps, according to a letter sent to Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Jason White.

Watson said in the June 9 letter that direction is due to the April Louisiana v. Callais Supreme Court decision, which led to a national redistricting battle, including the redrawing of congressional lines in Tennessee that split Memphis into three districts.
