Professional hockey returning to Mid-South

Nearly nine years after the Mississippi RiverKings vacated the Landers Center, professional hockey is returning to Southaven, a new team with a royalty theme and a focus on connecting with the community.
The Mid-South Monarchs, an expansion squad of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, will open their inaugural season later this year. The FPHL is a Single-A minor league organization, similar to the Southern Professional Hockey League in which the RiverKings played from 2011 to 2018.
The FPHL is among the lowest professional levels of hockey in North America, similar to independent baseball leagues such as the Frontier League or the Atlantic League.
