WYXR’s director about music, AI and the evolution of the station
Whenever I talk to Robby Grant about WYXR, I’m amazed about how much the station has grown. Grown as a radio station — and as an arts, culture and community organization in Memphis.
Grant, who is the executive director of WYXR, joined me on this week’s episode of “The Sidebar” to talk about how the station has evolved in its six years, the range of programs and events WYXR supports and its growth into a full-blown arts and community organization.
We also talked about Robby’s own music and the origin story of WYXR (a story I was sure I’d told him — but hadn’t).

“The Sidebar” airs every Thursday at 11:30 a.m. on WYXR-FM 91.7 and is also available as a video podcast here on the website, as a video on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.
Editor’s Note: WYXR is a partnership between Crosstown Concourse, the University of Memphis and The Daily Memphian. As part of that partnership, I serve on the board of Crosstown Radio Partnership, which owns and oversees WYXR.
