Opinion: What to know before donating your car to charity
Randy Hutchinson
Randy Hutchinson is the President and CEO of the BBB of the Mid-South, serving 28 counties in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. He graduated from Western Maryland College and has an MBA from Wilmington College.
The Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance says there are a number of reasons why donating a car to charity may make sense.
They include:
- a need for an end-of-year tax deduction;
- the vehicle needs a high level of repair and would incur a high level of maintenance costs;
- you’re looking to get a new car but feel your trade-in value is low;
- you haven’t had much luck selling a car on your own;
- you want to save time and energy trying to sell your car.
