Building Black wealth in Memphis focus of event at Bridges

Building Black generational wealth in Memphis was the theme of the second annual Powered By Us Symposium, which brought hundreds of people to Bridges USA in Uptown on Friday, Aug. 14.
Hosted by the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, the symposium included a day of sessions that addressed how to start, continue or address the barriers of building Black generational wealth in Memphis with topics including homeownership, entrepreneurship, investing, financial wellness, familial-asset protection, estate planning and transferring wealth to future generations.
“The goal of (today) is to share resources, provide information for folks who wouldn’t otherwise potentially know how to get it and for the 300 plus attendees to walk away with things that could help them individually, help their family and essentially help the next generation,” said Veronica Jamison, organizer and Community Foundation vice president of philanthropic services.
