In 2021, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s West Tennessee crime lab moved from Memphis — its home of 20 years — to Jackson.
At the time, the TBI director said that although Shelby County brought the organization, quote, “a lot of work,” Jackson was more central to all the TBI’s partners in the west.
Last month, Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and District Attorney General Steve Mulroy announced the purchase of four new rapid DNA machines, giving local law enforcement the ability to turn DNA test results around in 90 minutes.
