Daily Jigsaw: Storm cleanup
After a powerful thunderstorm and strong winds left more than a quarter of the city without power Saturday night, Memphis Light, Gas and Water crews slowly whittled down the number of Memphians still in the dark Sunday.
At the height of the outage, more than 140,000 MLGW customers were without power, officials said Sunday, adding that about 40,000 of those were restored Saturday evening and into Sunday morning.
MLGW said that about 600 employees and contractors were working Sunday to continue power restoration. That number includes 250 contracted electric line crew and another 200 tree trimmers. Officials said more help was on the way but did not specify when or what they would be doing.
