Date set for Poplar and Highland gas station construction

Construction of a gas station convenience store at Poplar Avenue and Highland Street is expected to begin Sept. 8, an undertaking 967 days in the making.
The Exxon Hop-In at 3487 Poplar Ave. caught fire Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. Although the fuel pumps and canopies weren’t damaged, it has been a long and winding road towards redeveloping the convenience store on one of the most visible commercial corners in the city.
Tuesday, Sept. 1, the project’s consultant and the city’s planning department director gave an update to a Memphis City Council committee.
