Memphis at Charlotte: What to know before Tigers’ first conference game

By , Daily Memphian Updated: October 02, 2026 8:05 PM CT | Published: October 02, 2026 11:12 AM CT

The Memphis Tigers’ race toward a potential American Conference championship starts this week.

The Tigers will play their first conference game Saturday at Charlotte. The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT, but it was moved to a 10 a.m. start because of inclement weather concerns. It will still be aired on ESPN+.

The two teams have had completely different starts to the season. Memphis enters conference play 3-1 while Charlotte is still looking for its first win of the season at 0-4. Despite the record, Memphis coach Charles Huff said there are things that show up on film that could create problems.

“They’ve got some skill guys at the wideout position that are really electric,” Huff said. “They get the ball in their hands. They’ve got some wiggle. They’ve got the ability to, we call it, COD; change of direction, short-area burst.”
