The Germantown Parks and Recreation Commission will host public forums this week to get input about Germantown Station and Riverdale parks.

The Riverdale Park forum will be Monday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the suburb's Pickering Center. The Germantown Station Park forum will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the same time and location.

The forums will allow the public to offer comments to the design team looking at changes for the two parks.

“It’s to facilitate discussions with citizens and our design firm,” Director of Parks and Recreation Pam Beasley said. “We are reinvesting in the parks.”

Presentations and photos will help guide the discussions.

Students and faculty from Riverdale Elementary School will get a chance to comment on the Riverdale Park plans after the public input meeting.

“I’m anxious to get the public input first,” Beasley said.

The Parks and Recreation Commission will hear about the public comments in January at its monthly meeting.

Comments will then be reviewed and used to create preliminary designs addressing such issues as safety, drainage and recreational uses.

The preliminary designs will be made available to the public for additional input, possibly online or in another forum.

“This gives the public an opportunity to see the preliminary plan before construction,” Beasley said.

Aldermen must give final approval to the construction designs. Bids probably won't come until spring.

The city has allocated $25,000 for improvements at each park.
