Deer pit near Collierville set to close with state funding for incinerator
Owner/operator Chad Cardwell removes a deer lymph node on Jan. 3, 2019, at the Custom Deer Processing facility outside Medon, where the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has set up a field office for sample preparation to test for Chronic Wasting Disease. CWD moved rapidly into West Tennessee last year and the TWRA is trying to curb the spread of the disease with new rules, testing and a specialized CWD Unit. Lymph nodes from over 10,000 deer have been collected from drop boxes, removed and sent for testing from the temporary regional center located at Custom Deer Processing. (Jim Weber/Daily Memphian)
The state will fund a Fayette County landfill incinerator east of Shelby County to dispose of deer carcasses testing positive for chronic wasting disease.
