Politics is nothing new when it comes to projects like “America’s River Crossing” in Downtown Memphis. The circa-1949 bridge it would replace saw plenty of it when it came time to consider its name.
Along with a new I-55 roundabout and new bridge, plans for a pedestrian walkway to connect Crump Park with Martyrs Park are also on the table.
Federal, state and local leaders gathered Thursday, July 18, by the river at the Metal Museum to talk about the path to the $800 million project.
The separate I-55-Crump Boulevard roundabout currently under construction just east of the old Memphis-Arkansas Bridge got a lot of attention at the first public hearing on the new bridge, planned for just south of the existing one.
