The case was the first DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton tried since being elected in November when he ran on taking a strict approach to crime committed by Memphians in North Mississippi.
Before being chosen for the top law enforcement position, Brent Vickers acted as Southaven’s deputy chief of police.
Vickers currently serves as the city’s deputy police chief. He has been with the Southaven Police Department for nearly 25 years.
“It’s a big deal,” Mayor Darren Musselwhite said of the Southaven Police Department being accredited with the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.
