This is the fourth cohort of interns to land at The Daily Memphian since the site relaunched its internship program following the onset of COVID-19.
The Daily Memphian’s Geoff Calkins wins the prestigious Gary Lundy Sports Writer of the Year award; John Varlas, Drew Hill also take victories in the annual TSWA state writing contest.
Daily Memphian sports writer John Varlas was named best high schools writer in the state for 2020 as judged by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. Varlas also was runner-up in two other categories.
Geoff Calkins, Drew Hill and Danielle Lerner were recognized for their work in 2020.
This week, we announced plans to increase staff. Soon we’ll have four reporters covering local business and eight covering local schools, city and county government, and suburban governments.
