Memphis Parks’ Family Fun Fridays are headed to Frayser’s newly-renovated Ed Rice Community Center for a second time Friday evening, July 22.
The center underwent an $8.4 million renovation that took almost two years since the old building was demolished in August 2020.
Nearly $60 million in development projects are at various stages of completion in Frayser addressing neighborhood issues such as early childhood education, recreational activities and affordable housing.
While the wait until completion likely won’t be as long as the years long push for a new facility, there’s no Ed Rice center available while those improvements are underway.
A gym, aquatics center, tennis court, park and art space are some features of the new Ed Rice Community Center.
Demolition on the current Ed Rice Community Center is set to begin in May, but community members still have questions about what the new facility will offer and what alternative services will be available during construction.
The City of Memphis hosted the first public meeting with Frayser citizens Thursday to get their input on what a brand new Ed Rice Community Center should look and feel like.
