“This is the rebuild and transformation of Frayser, but this is also a moment, a forerunner, of things to come,” said Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris, who first proposed building the school five years ago.

While the new Frayser high school is being built on the current site of MLK Prep, those students will have to attend another school. Then, once the new school is built, Trezevant High School will close.
“There’s something that’s got to be done so no other mother has to feel this pain,” said Angela Kirkendoll, whose son Myra died this week.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris will include a $10 million ask to restart work on a new Memphis-Shelby County Schools high school in Frayser when he presents his fiscal year 2024 budget proposal to county commissioners on Wednesday, April 26.
The stadium will be the first turf football field for the Memphis-Shelby Police Athletic League, with $500,000 in funding in place toward goal of $8 million.
