On Thursday, May 1, an argument erupted at Pickett Park in Frayser that led to gunfire, as more than 100 students at Libertas School were outside playing barely a block away.

A 23-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son who were near the park were injured in the shooting. The woman was hit in the leg and the child received bullet fragments to the side of his face; neither was critically injured. One of the bullets blew out the rear window of a parent’s car parked in the Libertas lot, but no one at the school was hurt. No arrests have been made yet.
