Cooper, the stepson of Rodney Newsom — a former Tigers forward from 1992 to 1996 who was teammates with coach Penny Hardaway — totaled eight points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in 50 minutes through six games last season.
Cooper, the Tigers’ 6-foot-1 walk-on point guard and Memphis native, faces a difficult decision this offseason.
“We’ve been taking some losses,” said walk-on Joe Cooper. “So it just felt good to be able to contribute to the win — get the crowd back into it, get the city back into it.”
