When journalist Laura Testino moved to Memphis in 2019, she hoped to find a beat rich in stories. The education beat definitely delivered, but she may have ultimately found more than that.
The grant from Knight, which is a leader in supporting local news initiatives nationwide, marks a major vote of confidence in The Daily Memphian’s subscriber-first model of nonprofit news.

The Daily Memphian has become the largest digital-only, local news site in the country. Being the biggest was never our goal. We just wanted to do all we could to provide quality local news to the Memphis area on a daily, if not hourly, basis.
