The Daily Memphian introduces a streamlined Morning Edition

From the very first day we launched The Daily Memphian, our Morning Edition email has been, in many ways, the flagship of this whole effort. It’s our most-read email. It’s one of the biggest drivers of traffic to the site. It’s as close as we get to replacing that printed newspaper so many of us used to get delivered every morning to our homes and businesses.
Now, some 3½ years since we launched, we’re making a few important changes to the Morning Edition. In short, starting next week, the Morning Edition will be streamlined for a better reading experience.
(Don’t worry: If you’re a paid subscriber and still want to receive the same Morning Edition we’ve always delivered, just click here to opt into that format.)
What are the changes? Many are subtle — simple changes to how graphics are presented and a reduction in the number of excerpts you’ll see as, instead, we include more headlines to our articles.
This simple redesign will make the Morning Edition quicker to read while also showing you more of the hundreds of articles we write every week. Finding the best way to present the volume of stories we produce has always been a challenge. Some days we post 20 to 30 new stories to The Daily Memphian. Highlighting all of them to our readers can be a challenge.
And that challenge will only grow as we continue to add reporters to our newsroom of 40 journalists focused exclusively on the Memphis area.
The new Morning Edition, however, will help us deliver on our goal of giving you a comprehensive look at the day’s news every morning.
Again, though, if you’re a paid subscriber and you want to continue to receive the same Morning Edition we’ve always delivered, just click here to opt into the traditional format. Please note that you have to be a paid subscriber to continue to receive that version.
If you have feedback on the new Morning Edition — or anything about The Daily Memphian — please don’t hesitate to email me. I appreciate all the feedback I get, good and bad, and try always to respond to every message.
Thanks for reading The Daily Memphian.
