Test to Protect will work by allowing businesses to test their own employees with PCR nose-swab kits they can use at work or in their homes.
“As things become more open, we’re relying on you, your own judgement to decide whether or not you should attend or participate in certain activities,” Dr. Bruce Randolph said.
“There is incredibly limited access for asymptomatic patients,” said Jenny Bartlett-Prescott, who is coordinating community testing efforts for the Memphis and Shelby County Joint COVID-19 Task Force.
Shelby County Health Department Director Alisa Haushalter said Shelby County could conduct 2,400 tests a day, but many sites lack people who want the tests -- some are at only 40% of capacity.
American Esoteric Laboratories in Memphis will begin processing blood samples Tuesday to see if people who had COVID-19 and recovered developed antibodies that may give them immunity.
