During the United Nations’ annual climate change conference, the Mississippi River mayors signed an agreement with an Indian river advocacy group and announced a new pilot program with Munich Reinsurance Co.
Wetland depletion along the Mississippi River has left the region “exposed to disasters that would normally be absorbed by wetland capabilities,” the mayors said in their policy proposal.
“Simply put, the Mississippi River corridor is America’s original Main Street — and it should be treated as such,” said Greenville, Mississippi mayor Errick Simmons.
