This week, Tennessee Shakespeare presents “The Tempest” (twice and for free!), more than 100 artists will paint murals around the Edge and the Drive-By Truckers bring Southern rock to the Shell.
“This event is a great community outreach,” said local artist David Yancy III as he led an art workshop at the Ravine in Memphis’ Edge District.
Each year, Paint Memphis invites artists from around the country to join local and regional artists to create murals in blighted or disinvested areas in Memphis.
The event will feature seven live muralists, live electronic music, popup market, food and outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking.
Paint Memphis will spend hundreds of dollars applying an anti-graffiti coating on murals vandalized shortly after last year’s event in Uptown. Meanwhile, Paint Memphis 2021 will carry on in South Memphis with a festival on Oct. 9.
