“I think he was used by his brother,” the prosecutor said after the sentencing. “I think he knew better, and he obviously knew things were fishy and that he shouldn’t be doing these things. He is not a criminal.”

Young Dolph was killed while visiting Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in 2021. Now, three of the men charged in his death are set to go to trial.
On Monday, Hernandez Govan posted a $250 bail on a suspended license charge and a $2,000 bail on a stalking charge.
The trial was initially scheduled to begin June 3, but Luke Evans, Justin Johnson’s attorney, filed a motion May 14 to reschedule it to allow for expert testimony and hearing.

Govan’s attorney, Handel Durham, told Mitchell he told his client to “be on standby” due to “intervening factors” and that Govan was “besieged with a lot of calls.”
“This court feels like that would be too onerous and would delay the trial,” Shelby County Criminal Court Division 10 Jennifer Mitchell said in her verbal ruling.
