Volunteers answer call to help clean up Mid-South Coliseum

Members of the Coliseum Coalition invited community members to participate in a volunteer clean-up event on Saturday. Workers signed up in advance to help clear debris from the Mid-South Coliseum, a storied local landmark.

The arena has been out of use since 2007, but grassroots organizations such as the Coliseum Coalition have been vying for support from the City of Memphis to invigorate efforts to preserve and repurpose the former entertainment facility.

With the help of the city, the Coliseum Coalition has hosted tour groups of selected community leaders to see the condition of the venue up-close. The clean-up event was done in an effort to “pave the way for 'pre-vitalizing' events inside the building,” coalition president Roy Barnes said.
