New arts space pays homage to Piggly Wiggly founder
Ashlee Rivalto is transforming a building across from Snowden School into a community arts space. It will open on May 31 under the name Soul Owner, a take on Piggly Wiggly founder Clarence Saunders’ stores. “It’s a place where artists can share ideas, meet neighbors and network, Rivalto said. “The foundation of this is holding space for others to explore new ideas.” (Jim Weber/Daily Memphian)
A nearly 100-year-old building at 579 N. McLean has had several lives. Its latest incarnation will give artists in the Memphis community a chance to share their "soul" creations with others.
