NBC will create a series from "Bluff City Law," the legal drama that filmed its pilot in Memphis and Oxford in March.

The film and television trade publications Deadline and Variety reported NBC's decision to pick up the show, but it's uncertain where most of the filming will take place.

Linn Sitler, executive director of the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission, said the Tennessee Entertainment Commission didn't get the $10 million in additional funds it sought from the Tennessee legislature this year to lure the production to Memphis.

But, "We haven't given up," Sitler said of continuing efforts to find the $10 million. She estimated the production could bring $55 million per season to the city and county if it filmed here.

“If the money is not found and the series bases in another state, it will be to the everlasting shame of Tennessee," she said, calling the drama the Memphis version of "Nashville" – "only even better."

A synopsis describes the show as the tale of a "brilliant lawyer" named Sydney Strait, who is estranged from her father but decides to rejoin his Memphis law firm, "celebrated" for fighting injustice, after her philanthropist mother dies.

Currently, the cast includes Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael LuwoyeMaameYaa BoafoStony Blyden and Jayne Atkinson.
