Jerry Lee Lewis statue goes up in DeSoto County
DeSoto County continues to celebrate Jerry Lee Lewis, including on Friday, Sept. 20, with the unveiling of a cast-bronze statue made in the rock ’n‘ roll legend’s likeness.
Local officials, Lewis fans and members of the singer’s family got their first peeks at the statue during the opening of the Jerry Lee Lewis Plaza in Southaven’s Silo Square.
“It gives me chill bumps right now to know that he knew what we were doing, and he saw renderings of the statue before he passed,” Silo Square’s developer Brian Hill said before the covering was removed Friday evening. “But I know he’s watching down on us, and he’ll get to see it in just a minute.”
