Move over, Hollywood: DeSoto County’s movie scene is on the rise

A new monthly screening series, Indie Spotlight: Film & Conversation, aims to carve out a dedicated space for independent filmmakers in Mississippi and Memphis.
The series kicks off Saturday, June 21, at Malco DeSoto Cinema Grill with a screening of “Cubic Zirconia,” a crime thriller written and directed by Southaven local Jaron Lockridge.
The inspiration behind Indie Spotlight focuses on creating a stronger, more connected film community in the Mid-South.
